About

Nancy Owen, MA, LMHC, CST

I have been a therapist for 25+ years working with diverse issues and populations including children and families within the foster care system, survivors of domestic violence, assaultive children and teens, mother-infant pairs around attachment and bonding, adults struggling with anxiety and depression, and couples with serious relationship and sexual issues.

I have also worked as an educator for nurses and psychology students in the areas of child development / developmental psychology and understanding mental health issues. I believe our past often influences our present behavior in unconscious ways -- a perspective known as psychodynamic therapy. My goal is to help clients achieve insight into these unconscious processes in order to create the possibilities for change. I employ an integrated therapeutic approach individually tailored to the needs of each client or couple.

I work with couples in all stages of life, with a specialization in helping couples transition to parenthood, including infertility, adoption, and pregnancy / postpartum / attachment and bonding issues. To that end, I am a certified Gottman educator and am trained in emotion focused therapy for couples.

"So many people are shut up tight inside themselves like boxes, yet they would open up, unfolding quite wonderfully, if only you were interested in them." ~ Sylvia Plath
